SWB in Seattle
Soccer Without Borders Seattle provides soccer and educational programs for newly arrived immigrant and refugee youth in the Greater Seattle area. We tap into young people's love for soccer, building a bridge between the game, the classroom and their new community. Our program combines soccer practices and games with academic and language support, civic engagement and cultural exchange activities, while reducing barriers to entry that typically leave newcomers excluded.
Why it matters
Sport in general, and soccer in particular is a proven accelerator and motivator for youth to stay positively engaged in academics through middle school and beyond. Soccer has the power to break down barriers between people from different cultures and serve as a living classroom. Our whole-person approach, trained coaches and program design that addresses barriers to access, support youth to reach their goals on and off the field.
Your support
When you and your team participate in Small Goals, Big Change you are providing crucial support to Soccer Without Borders to run our new, year-round program at the Seattle World School, a unique middle and high school exclusively for newly arrived, English language learning youth. There, nearly one third of the school population participate on our high school boys, high school girls and middle school coed teams.
